This September, CSz Worldwide’s third annual aPOCalypse Weekend comes to Indianapolis.

From Thurs., September 26th- Sat., September 28, performers of color from around the United States will converge on the CSz Theatre, 721 Massachusetts Ave., for hilarious ComedySportz matches, as well as freewheeling improv jams, developmental workshops, and discussions of diversity and inclusion in the comedic arts.

Thursday at 7 pm, Friday at 7:30 pm, and Saturday at 4:30 and 7:30 pm, teams of POC players will go head to head in ComedySportz improv matches in teams from across the country. A special edition of The Blue Show will take place as part of the festival at 10 pm on Saturday for audiences 17 and older. Workshops for visiting performers and local improvisers of color will run throughout the weekend.

The goals of the weekend are to increase the connectedness of players of color in CSz Worldwide, and in the wider improv community; to address challenges unique to players of color through workshops; and to entertain audiences while celebrating underrepresented POC talent on the CSz Indianapolis stage.

In 2017 and 2018, aPOCalypse Weekend brought improvisers of color to Chicago and Philadelphia, respectively. Both years saw highly successful ComedySportz matches, workshops, and camaraderie. This year’s event will feature performers from across the United States, as well as local Indianapolis improvisers of color. “If somebody told you your own Indianapolis wasn’t technicolor, SOMEBODY TOLD YOU WRONG!,” says Daryl Hollonquest Jr., a member of the ComedySportz Indianapolis ensemble. “CSz Indy is proud to host a weekend celebrating the mix of cultures in ComedySportz across the nation.”

CSz Indianapolis’s 2019 aPOCalypse Weekend offers audience members and performers alike a unique opportunity to witness, and to present, too-often-overlooked talent in improvised comedy.
